MANILA, Philippines—Despite the recent crimes involving policemen as perpetrators, the Philippine National Police (PNP) sought people’s appreciation on the efforts of police forces in solving high-profile cases.
This was after Quezon City Police arrested Pasay City Policeman PO2 Edgar Angel on August 23 for drug peddling and for killing car racer Ferdinand “Enzo” Pastor in exchange of P150,000.
The solving of Pastor case was considered ‎by the PNP as one of its accomplishments under Special Task Group “Pivot.”
It was then followed up by a deadly incident involving PO2 Domino Alipio who ran amuck and ‎shot four teachers inside Pangasinan National High School on Monday.
“I hope our fellowmen will also see the sacrifices and effort of our policemen to solve cases like these,” Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP Public Information Office chief, said in a press briefing.
Because of some PNP members’ involvement in crimes, Sindac lamented that this outshines the accomplishments of the entire PNP force.
“Our policemen go through a lot of sacrifices. It takes a lot of diligence and dedication when doing an investigative work,” he said.
But despite this, Sindac pointed out that those policemen who commit crimes will not be exempted.
‎”Basta involved sa masamang gawa at crimes, patuloy po namin na tutugisin kahit sila ay kasama sa aming hanay (If they are involved in illegal activities and crimes, we will continue to pursue them even if they belong to our ranks),” he said.
Sindac‎ said the PNP dedicated an operation to specifically go after policemen involved in illegal activities.
Angel admitted to the Quezon City Police that he was paid P100,000 by his ‎friend Domingo “Sandy” de Guzman III to kill Pastor, plus P50,000 bonus. De Guzman is the alleged lover of Pastor’s wife Dalia Guerrero.
On Tuesday afternoon, De Guzman was freed temporarily by the Muntinlupa Court after posting bail.
