SUSPECT FOR MAN KILLED BY STRAY BULLET, DEAD; 4 OTHERS ARRESTED FOR VIOLATION OF RA 10591

For a good father killed by stray bullet, there should be no chance the suspect can hide and not pay for his ruthless action. And for the reliable police officers of Pasay City Police Station, the suspect’s immediate arrest should be made taking into account that he is armed and dangerous.
Through a police operation and service of search warrant earlier today, joint elements of Pasay CPS Intelligence Branch led by PCInsp Rolando Baula, Special Reaction Unit (SRU) led by PSInsp Alan Rainier Cabral, and Pasay Police Community Precinct 3 led by PSI Cosme Tante captured Jeric De Asis at about 6:00 AM in Interior Tramo St., Pasay City for Homicide case and pending warrant of arrest for PD 1866.

MANILA, Philippines – Following the announcement of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on its extension on the validity of gun licenses, a gun owners’ group questioned a portion of the newly enacted Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions.
Peaceful Responsible Owners of Guns (Pro-gun) criticized the retroactive implementation of the license to own and possess firearms (LTOPF) for gun owners, saying it was unconstitutional.
“Under this new system all existing licensed firearms owners who were previously approved are once again required to re-qualify and submit all over again all new requirements for ‘license to own and possess’ a firearm (LTOP),” the group said in a statement posted on its website.
Pro-gun was also the same group that filed a petition before the high tribunal questioning the gun law’s provision allowing the PNP to use courier service for deliveries of approved firearms licenses and applications.

The back rider alighted and proceeded to the cashier’s booth and at gunpoint, divested the cashier of the establishment day’s earnings.

PNP CITES HEADWAY IN PROBE OF MEDIA SLAY CASES

The Philippine National Police is implementing more tangible actions to fulfill its crucial role in complementing national government efforts to resolve media killings and other threats to press freedom
“The PNP has made significant headway in the investigation of cases of violence committed against working journalists as part of the 4-pronged approach of the Aquino administration to curb media killings,” according to Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore C Sindac, Chief of the PNP Public Information Office.
Sindac said, mainly thru the efforts of Task Force USIG of the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM), 42 cases investigated by the PNP resulted in the successful prosecution of eight (8) accused responsible in separate cases of media slay.
To complement efforts in enhancing law enforcement capability, strengthening of the judicial system and support for the promotion of media ethics and standards, the PNP is also applying the strong arm approach of accounting for loose firearms and illegal weapons to effectively take away instruments of crime, violence and oppression from the hands of criminal elements and unauthorized individuals.

High conviction rate of drug cases seen with new law

MANILA, Philippines – Now that President Benigno Aquino III signed into law Republic Act 10640 which amended RA 9165 or the 2002 Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, anti-illegal drugs police are expected to reach an absolute conviction rate of suspects.
From the 75-percent conviction rate of suspects, the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (AIDSOTF) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) targets 100-percent with the recent amendment of the RA 9165.
“This time there would be no longer a reason to acquit drug suspects. Kapag meron pang hindi na-convict, kasalanan na ng police ‘yon,” Chief Inspector Roque Merdegia, AIDSOTF spokesperson, said in an interview on Monday.
Unlike in RA 9165, the new law allows policemen to do the physical inventory of seized illegal drug paraphernalia at the nearest police station ‎or at Camp Crame even without the presence of a representative either from the media or from the Justice Department.
