6 Laguna police chiefs sacked

LAGUNA, Philippines – Six police chiefs in this province have been relieved from their posts for various reasons, Laguna police director Senior Superintendent Florendo Saligao said yesterday.
Those relieved were the police chiefs of Siniloan, Nagcarlan, San Pedro City, Calamba City, Victoria and Cabuyao.

Deputy provincial director for administration Superintendent Nilo Maitim was appointed officer-in-charge of the Cabuyao police, replacing Superintendent Leonardo Luna, who was accused of violating a police training policy.

Many kidnap cases linked to illegal drugs, gambling debts – anti-crime group

MANILA, Philippines – An anti-crime watchdog has warned that many kidnapping cases in the Philippines are not for ransom alone and are linked to illegal drugs, gambling debts and rivalry between criminal gangs.

“There are kidnapping cases that are related to illegal drugs, gambling debts in casinos, etc.,” pointed Teresita Ang See, the founding chairperson of the Movement for the Restoration of Peace and Order.

She lamented that foreigners, particularly Chinese nationals, have been the usual victims in kidnap-for-ransom cases.

The Philippine National Police maintains that the national peace and order and security situation remains to be highly stable and manageable vis-a-vis the threat posed by domestic threat groups.

Directorate for Intelligence (DI) Deputy Director, PCSUPT Generoso R. Cerbo Jr. made the statement in view of the upcoming major events to be hosted by the government, namely the visit of the Roman Catholic Pontiff, Pope Francis in January next year and the holding of APEC Head of States Summit on the later part of the year.

PNP forms papal visit task force

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) has created a task force to ensure the safety of Pope Francis when he visits the country in January next year.

The PNP has created the Special Task Force “Papal Visit 2015” to provide “extensive security coverage and other public safety services.

PNP Chief Director General Alan Purisima has designated Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina to head the task force and mobilize all government agencies involve.

“Extensive security coverage and other public safety services will be undertaken in all areas of engagements and its adjacent areas during the Papal Visit. It is imperative that the security and safety of the Pope be given utmost priority,” Purisima said.

PNP defends lone bidder for Camp Crame security guards

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday defended the lone bidder who won the P21 million contract to deploy security guards to man the gates and offices of Camp Crame in Quezon City, the national headquarters of the PNP, saying that the bidder followed guidelines provided under Republic Act 9184 or the Government Procurement Reform Act.

Police Senior Superintendent Roberto Po, spokesperson of PNP Director General Alan Purisima, said that the PNP facilitated an aboveboard bidding process when it awarded the contract to Right Eight Security Agency Inc., the winning bidder.

“Ito ay isang aboveboard bidding (process). Sinunod ng PNP ang batas tungkol diyan sa bidding according to the Government Procurement Act and its implementing rules and regulations. Yung PNP, nag-imbita, nag-open ng bidding pero isa lang ang nag-qualify na nag-bid. Kung tatanungin nila kung ligal ito, liga na ligal ito,” Po said in an interview over Radyo Inquirer 990 AM.

SECURITY GUARDS MAN POSTS IN CAMP CRAME GATES

Seventy-three (73) security guards of Right Eight Security Agency (RESA) Inc. were deployed in the four (4) gates of the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Saturday (November 8) in line with the earlier pronouncements of the Chief PNP, Director General Alan La Madrid Purisima, to deploy desk-bound police officers in the field.

According to Police Chief Superintendent Albert C Supapo, Acting Director of PNP Headquarters Support Service, said guards were also directed to man other Camp facilities in particular to Officer’s Row Gate (1SG), Transformation Oval Parking (1SG), NHQ Lobby (1SG and 1Lady Guard), NHQ Back Parking (1SG), NHQ North Wing (1SG), and NHQ South Wing (1SG); while four (4) other security guards will serve as roving guards.

Ombudsman begins Purisima lifestyle check

MANILA, Philippines–The Office of the Ombudsman on Monday said it had started a lifestyle check on Philippine National Police Director General Alan Purisima who was charged with plunder and graft before the antigraft body for allegedly amassing ill-gotten wealth.

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales also assured the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs that her office was already looking into the purported donations that Purisima received for the construction of the “White House,” the official residence of the PNP chief at Camp Crame, Quezon City.

“The office is already probing the matter,” Morales said in a statement.

PNOY APPOINTS 5 MORE PNP GENERALS

President Benigno S Aquino III has approved the promotion of 21 police officials upon the recommendation of Department of Interior Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and PNP Chief, Director General Alan La Madrid Purisima.

PDG Purisima inducted the newly promoted officials to the new rank during simple ceremonies today in Camp Crame.

Including to the list of promotees is the PNP-Public Information Chief, Police Chief Superintendent Wilben Manipol Mayor, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1985, together with four other senior officers.
