POLICE AND MILITARY TROOPS IN HOT PURSUIT OF CAGAYAN NPA

Police security forces are in hot pursuit of a group of communist New People’s Army insurgents that engaged elements of the Regional Public Safety Battalion in a fire fight early today in Baggao, Cagayan.

Reports reaching PNP Chief, Director General Ricardo C Marquez from Police Chief Superintendent Ranier Idio, PNP Regional Director of Police Regional Office 2 in the Cagayan Valley Region confirmed the death of six policemen in the armed confrontation with communist insurgents at Barangay Sta. Margarita at 10:00 AM today.

Idio said hot pursuit operations are being conducted by reinforcing troops from the Cagayan Provincial Public Safety Company and RPSB backed by two UH1H helicopter gunships of the PAF.

The Commander of the 502nd Brigade PA has also field troops from the 17th IBPA to reinforce the beleaguered police troops. (PNP-PIO)
