PNP CELEBRATES 66TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS

Consistent with the core value, MAKATAO, the Philippine National Police together with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and other government institutions will take the lead in the week long celebration of the National Human Rights Consciousness Week.
In compliance with Republic Act No. 9201 otherwise known as “An act Declaring December 4 – 10 as National Human Rights Consciousness Week in the Country and for other Purposes”, various activities promoting the awareness campaign for the 66th Anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) will be launched starting December 4 up to December 10, 2014.

“Mamamayan at Pamahalaan Kapit-Bisig sa Pagsulong ng Karapatan sa Kaunlaran” was the chosen theme to give meaning to the ideals of the commemoration. Multi-sectoral dialogue, inspection of lock-up cells, visit to orphanage, barangay seminar for human rights and bloodletting are included in the line-up of activities.
One of the objectives of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is to enjoin all state institutions to actively participate in the celebration of the UDHR and to focus their efforts on helping people everywhere to attain a high level of awareness on human rights.
Marking the beginning of the celebration were the reading of “Panata sa Karapatang Pantao” led by Human Rights Affairs Office (HRAO) Chief PCSUPT Prudencio Tom T Bañas and the launching of the 2-volume Compendium on International and National Human Rights Laws of PNP HRAO in partnership with the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) of Germany during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony in Camp Crame.
The celebration will end on December 10, 2014 with a “Caravan for Human Rights and Access to Justice” which will start from Quirino Grandstand in Manila at 1:00PM and end at the Fountain Area of the Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City at 4:00PM.
Part of the said program is the signing of the Declaration of Commitment to establish the National Monitoring Mechanism on Cases of Extra-Judicial Killings, Enforced Disappearance, and Torture by the Heads of concerned agencies. (PNP-PIO)
