PNP-IAS endorses dismissal of 58 cops implicated in illegal activities

The head of the Philippine National Police-Internal Affairs Service (PNP-IAS) revealed on Thursday that 58 policemen, who were embroiled in illegal activities, have been recommended for dismissal from service as part of the institution’s internal cleansing.

PNP-IAS chief Insp. Gen. Alfegar Triambulo said among those dismissed were the 10 Caloocan City policemen who forcibly entered and robbed the house of Gina Erobas in Barrio Sta. Rita, Barangay 188, Tala, Caloocan City last September 7.

Triambulo also said that most of the 58 policemen were members of the Northern Police District (NPD) who were involved in kidnapping, robbery, extortion, and illegal drug activities.

“About 58 PNP personnel ang ni-recommend i-dismiss from service. Majority ng respondents na pulis ay assigned sa NPD,” Triambulo told INQUIRER.net in an interview.

The recommendation is now at the office of PNP Director Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for his signature.
The PNP-IAS had filed administrative charges of grave neglect of duty and less grave neglect of duty against 14 Caloocan City policemen, including Chief Inspector Timothy Aniway Jr., chief of the city’s Police Community Precinct 4; and team leader Senior Insp. Warren Tano Peralta in connection with Erobas’ case.

Triambulo said they absolved four of the 15 policemen, including Police Officer 1 Ronelo Julaton, Rene Llanto, Joey Leaban, and Jaypee Talay because there was no evidence to prove their involvement in the incident.

“’Yung apat na-prove na hindi sila kasama doon. Si Peralta lang and nine others ‘yung kasama doon sa civilians, sa batang nagnakaw,” he said.

(It was proven that the four were not included in the break-in and robbery of the house. Only Peralta and nine others who were brought the child who robbed the house.)

The policemen, wearing civilian clothes, were caught on security camera breaking into Erobas’ house without search warrant and even brought a minor in the supposed operation.
