ROXAS LEADS “SAFE KAm” PHASE 2 IN MONUMENT
Converting
crime-prone zones to crime-free zones, Interior and Local Government
Secretary Mar Roxas led the launching of Project “SAFE KAm” Phase 2 on
Wednesday (June 24) in Monumento, Caloocan City.
Together
with Secretary Roxas are MMDA Chairman Francisco Tolentino, Caloocan
City Congressman Edgar Erice, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan and
other officials, representatives from different Non-Government
Organizations, PNP Officer-In-Charge PDDG Leonardo Espina, NCRPO
Regional Director PDir Carmelo Valmoria and other PNP officials.
“Nagpapakita po ito ng whole-of-government approach dahil nakita po natin sa araw na ito na ang DILG, PNP, MMDA, Mayor, Congressman, Barangay officials, lahat tayo ay nagtutulong-tulong upang sugpuin ang kriminalidad sa bawat pamayanan.” Roxas said.
34 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras were installed along the busy streets of Monumento that were identified as crime-prone zones as reported by Police Chief Superintendent Jonathan Ferdinand G. Miano, Northern Police District Director.
“Kung
ikaw ay isang kriminal sa Caloocan sa Maynila mararamdaman mo ang buong
pwersa ng pamahalaan, yung bilang ng mata, yung init ng pwersang
naghahabol sa iyo” Roxas added referring to the successful installation
of CCTVs in Monumento and Pasay.
About
Php1-Million was allocated for the project in Monumento, Caloocan where
a million people are passing by in the area everyday. This translates
to an equivalent of 1 peso per person spent for their safety.
The
Project “SAFE KAm”, upon instructions of Secretary Roxas to the PNP
leadership, was initiated to maximize the effectiveness of the OPLAN
“Lambat-Sibat” anti-crime initiative in response to the various crime
incidents to different areas in NCR with priority on the identified
crime prone areas.
Oplan
Lambat Sibat is a deliberate, programmatic, and sustained approach
employed by the PNP to fight crime and this approach has already
decreased crime in Metro Manila by more than 60 percent since its
implementation in June 2014.
Through
the Project “SAFE KAm” the public can foresee a fair and just
investigation into any crimes happened and recorded in the CCTV. Any
identification caught by these cameras during crime incidents is a good
starting point for the investigator to have the investigation’s progress
to give favor to the would-be victims.
Project
“SAFE KAm” was first launched in Pasay City, out of the seven
crime-prone areas in Metro Manila identified by the PNP, with 32 CCTV
cameras installed along the busy intersection of Pasay Rotonda, located
at the corner of EDSA and Taft Avenue.
Other
areas include the University Belt area in Manila, MRT North Edsa
Station-West Avenue, EDSA Cubao-Aurora Boulevard, Redemptorist in
Baclaran, and De La Salle University along Taft Avenue. (PNP-PIO)
