WELL-SUPPORTED TROOPS KEY TO SUCCESSFUL APEC SECURITY MISSION

The PNP maintains there was sufficient logistics support for police troops that ultimately resulted in the successful handling of security operations during the just-concluded 2015 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Manila.

“The main reason why the APEC security operations succeeded is due to the fact that the troops involved were well-supported with their operational and administrative needs to perform the mission,” according to PNP Spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Wilben M Mayor.

Handcuffed ‘judge killer’ shot dead by cop during ‘gun grab’

 

 

 CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga — One of the suspected killers of a regional trial court judge in Bulacan was shot dead by his police escort after he allegedly grabbed the gun of the lawman while on their way to court in San Jose del Monte City on Monday.

Chief Supt. Rudy Lacadin, Central Luzon regional police director, said Arnel Janoras, one of the two suspects in the Nov. 11 murder of Bulacan RTC Branch 84 Judge Wilfredo Nieves, was in handcuffs when he grabbed the gun of his escort.

APEC hosting generally peaceful, PNP claims

The Philippine National Police has indicated that the country's hosting of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation has been generally peaceful even with the attempts of militant groups to hold protest actions near the APEC venues.

In a press briefing on Thursday, PNP Spokesman Wilben Mayor said they have been exercising extreme patience especially with the protesters conducting rallies.

Dozens of anti-Apec protesters hurt in clash with cops in Pasay, say groups

MANILA, Philippines — On the last day of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, protesters violently clashed with anti-riot troops in Pasay City as militant groups tried to breach a police barricade.

Dozens of rallyists were injured when a civil disturbance management team trained the hose of a fire truck on them, while other cops pushed back the rallyists with their shields, leading to a scuffle.

Duterte says syndicate is behind 'tanim bala' extortion scheme

Davao City (CNN Philippines) — Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte said that a syndicate is behind the series of incidents of passengers caught in the airport for alleged illegal possession of ammunition or the "laglag bala" [dropping bullet into a bag] or "tanim bala" [planting bullet into a bag] extortion scheme.

During his weekly television program Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa on Sunday (November 1), Duterte said he found it impossible to believe the growing number of incidents of ammunition found inside the luggage of passengers. But he added that it had been going on for the past two to three years.

MANILA, Philippines – "Regardless of the statistics, ‎one person wrongfully accused is one case too many.”

Liberal Party (LP) standard-bearer Manuel Roxas II on Thursday, November 5, made the statement as he clarified his stand on an alleged extortion scheme at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), where bullets are reportedly dropped into the bags of unsuspecting passengers.
