House panel finds impeachment raps vs. VP Sara sufficient in grounds

MANILA – The House Committee on Justice on Wednesday found sufficient grounds to

proceed to hearings on the two remaining impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte, paving the way for full-blown proceedings starting March 25.

The panel, chaired by Batangas Rep. Gerville “Jinky Bitrics” Luistro, approved without objection motions declaring that there are sufficient grounds to conduct hearings on the third and fourth impeachment complaints against the Vice President.

House Senior Deputy Majority Leader and Iloilo 3rd District Rep. Lorenz Defensor moved for the third complaint, while Deputy Speaker and Iloilo 1st District Rep. Janette Garin moved for the fourth.

Women’s role in PH digital safety cited

MANILA – The Scam Watch Pilipinas on Thursday highlighted the role of Filipino women in

protecting the country’s cyber landscape.

Scam Watch is a privately funded group known as the national citizen arm of the government, and working to educate Filipinos about cyber fraud.

In a message to the Philippine News Agency, its co-founder Jocel de Guzman said women play an important role in their volunteer watcher program and policy development through “their strong community networks and active participation in advocacy.”

PNP backs rejuvenated gov't anti-fake news drive

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday committed its full resources to the

national government’s intensified campaign against misinformation.

In a statement, the PNP said it has streamlined its operations to support the recent alliance between the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and various newspaper outlets to fight the proliferation of false information, particularly on social media.

PNP chief General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force is ready to provide the technical and enforcement backbone for this partnership.

“We are intensifying our 24/7 cyber patrolling, and we are prepared to link our monitoring systems with the Anti-Fake News Desk of the Presidential Communications Office for faster response,” he said.
