MANILA, Philippines -- Philippine National Police Director
General Ricardo Marquez threatened to transfer commanders stationed in
Batangas to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao if they fail to
stop criminal gangs preying on locators in the Southern Tagalog
province’s economic zone.
In a chance interview after a mass wedding in Camp Crame, Marquez said he had inspected police stations in Cavite and Batangas on Wednesday.
And while he said he saw no potential election flashpoints in the two provinces, he noted that “criminal Groups there (Batangas) are victimizing locators in the economic zone” but that the problem was being addressed not by local units but by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
“So I issued a … waning to them yesterday that they have … responsibilities and if they were having a hard time or in doubt ... then it’s time for you to step down,” he said.
Marquez said he gave Batangas police commanders a month to achieve results, otherwise, “I think some officers there have to go … maybe they could perform well if they are … assigned (to) the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.”
