Eleazar: Crimes in NCR down by 49 % since 2016

Compared to the last two years of the previous administration, the crime rate in Metro Manila has dropped by 49 percent, according to Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).

“Ito pong first two years ng present administration, kung ikukumpara po natin itong crime incidence doon po sa last two years of the past administration, sa Metro Manila 49 percent po ang ibinaba,” Eleazar said in an interview with Radyo Inquirer on Thursday.

In an ambush interview on Thursday at Camp Karingal, Eleazar clarified that since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office, crimes against persons such as physical injuries, kidnapping, homicide, murder, and rape also went down by 25 percent.

Crimes against property meanwhile such as  robbery, theft, and car theft also decreased by 58 percent over the two-year span.

He added that car theft incidents  dropped by 76 percent in the Metro, to include Quezon City.

“The most significant (decrease) is ‘yon pong sa carnapping ng four-wheeled vehicles, na bumaba ng 76 percent.  Yo’ng dati pong dalawang taon noong past administration, ang incident ng carnapping is 1,432, ito pong huling dalawang taon natin ngayon, 347 lang po,” he said.

“Pinakita natin na talagang bumaba sa QCPD, pero lahat po bumaba,” he added.

It would be recalled that the fight against crime and illegal drugs was one of the campaign promises of President Duterte.  /muf
