Over 4,000 cops deployed in Metro Manila for Undas 2018

More than 4,000 police officers were deployed across Metro Manila on Thursday to ensure the peaceful and orderly observance of Undas 2018, a top police official said.

"We have around 4,100 police personnel... uniformed personnel from NCRPO augmented by 600 coming from the national headquarters," National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said in an interview on GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon."

In addition, he said counterparts from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and 9,000 other force multipliers, including barangay officials, public cemetery security guards, and volunteers were keeping watch over the situation.

As of 4 p.m., the number of visitors at Manila North Cemetery has reached 1.3 million.

On the other hand, over 300,000 people have paid their respect to the dead at Manila South Cemetery.

The volume of visitors is expected to increase in the remaining hours of the day.

Eleazar said that the observance of All Saints' Day in Metro Manila has been generally peaceful, with 78 cemeteries and 38 columbaria being strictly monitored by security forces. — Dona Magsino/ LDF, GMA News
