Crime rate down by almost 13% in November
MANILA – The nationwide crime rate went down by 12.86 percent in November, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday.
Data released on Thursday showed index crimes dropped to 2,615 last month from 3,001 in October, reflecting a decrease of 386 cases.
Focus crimes are murder, homicide, rape, physical injury, carnapping of motorcycles and motor vehicles, and theft.
In a statement, PNP acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. attributed the decline in crime rate to enhanced police visibility, better intelligence operations and stringent law enforcement.
“This is proof that our strategies are working. Our men and women in uniform are committed to keeping our communities safe,” he added.
Among the focus crimes, the most significant declines were observed in rape, physical injury and murder.
Rape case recorded the sharpest drop, falling by 194 cases — from 550 to 356 (35.27 percent). Physical injury decreased by 65 cases, from 377 to 312 (17.24 percent), while murder declined by 40 cases — from 282 to 242 (14.18 percent).
Theft, which consistently registers the highest number of incidents, also fell by 110 cases, from 1,173 to 1,063 (9.38 percent), highlighting continued progress in preventing property-related offenses.
Minor improvements were seen in motorcycle theft, which decreased slightly from 211 to 206 cases (2.37 percent), while vehicle theft remained steady at 20 cases.
Nartatez said the sustained drop in national crime volume reflects cohesive and calibrated enforcement efforts rather than isolated gains.
Cybercrime cases also declined by nearly 18 percent, from 379 cases in October to 311 in November.
“The numbers are encouraging, but we won’t be complacent. We will continue to focus on targeted operations, visible police presence, and strong community partnerships,” Nartatez said.
With the holiday season approaching, the PNP continues to place public safety at the forefront, ensuring that Filipinos can go about their daily routines with confidence and peace of mind. (PNA)
