PNP assures peaceful, orderly 128th Independence Day celebration

MANILA – All security measures are in place for the country's 128th Independence Day
celebration on Friday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Thursday.

The PNP has not monitored any validated threats in connection with the event, but PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the deployments and coordination with local government units are aimed at ensuring peaceful and orderly celebrations across the country.

“This is an annual activity that we prepare for every year. We trust our commanders and personnel for real-time security adjustments based on threat assessments, intelligence gathering and situation on the ground,” he said in a statement.

He added that police forces will remain on alert, with standby units ready to respond immediately to any eventuality.

The PNP has intensified security preparations nationwide for flag-raising ceremonies, wreath-laying rites, parades and cultural presentations.

Police regional offices have activated their security plans in coordination with local government units, event organizers and partner agencies.

In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office will deploy 11,675 police officers, 143 personnel from partner units, and 596 force multipliers to secure Rizal Park, Parada ng Kalayaan route, Bonifacio Monument, Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion, Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine, the Malacañang area and the vicinity of the United States Embassy.

Security measures are also in place around the Senate and the House of Representatives in coordination with their respective officials and security personnel, particularly for possible protest actions related to the current political situation.

Nartatez said communication lines between the Senate and the PNP remain open, along with those of other government agencies involved in the June 12 activities.

“We are ready. We are continuously monitoring the situation and we assure the Filipino people of the PNP’s presence and readiness as the country celebrates its Independence Day,” he said. (PNA)
