PNP to recruit non-college grads?
MANILA – Congress is urged to pass a law that allows the Philippine National Police (PNP) to recruit non-college graduates.
Chief Superintendent Wilben Mayor, PNP public information office chief, said lowering the educational requirements for recruits is one of the legislative initiatives of the PNP. Congress still needs to pass a law that will relax the educational requirements for PNP recruits.
“Instead of a four-year course, pwede naman ‘yung K to 12 or high school graduate…We will put them first in the maneuver forces such as the public safety battalion or the Special Action Force dahil sila ‘yung mga nangunguna sa counter-insurgency operations natin,” he said in a radio interview.
Once recruited, the new police recruits will still need to study while receiving Salary Grade 6, he said.
“After months or years, they can become a Police Officer 1,” he said.
Mayor said the proposal seeks to level the playing field for Filipinos who want to study and serve their countrymen. Recruits still need to pass physical examination and drug tests.
According to the PNP website, the general qualifications for aspiring police officers are as follows:
RA No. 1080
PD No. 907
(For Lateral Entrants), RA No. 1080 (Board and Bar Examinations)
