Bais fireman yields 10.54 grams ‘shabu'
A Bais City Fire Station
fireman is in hot water after a search at his residence yielded
suspected illegal drugs, paraphernalia and cash, believed to be proceeds
from the illegal drugs activity.
Fire Officer 3 Arnol Maicom Saycon, elder brother of Negros Oriental Provincial Board Member Melliemoore Saycon, was charged for violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
A composite team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, the Provincial Intelligence Branch, Special Operations Group, Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Bais City PNP, swooped down on the residence of Saycon in Talavera Street, Barangay Talungon, Bais City, Dec. 14, to serve the search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 45 Judge Candelario Gonzales.
The search yielded three heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, weighing about 10.54 grams, and with a Dangerous Drugs Board value of around P124,000.
Also recovered from the house were a cellphone, a digital weighing scale, tin foil, a pair of scissor, and P7,320 in cash, records show.
Senior Supt. Dionardo Bernardo Carlos, NOPPO officer-in-charge, said this accomplishment is in line with the project “One Time, Big Time”, with PDEA as the lead agency, and of Operation Big Bertha, where Bais City was the target area Monday.
He said the serving of search warrants is based on intelligence reports, from concerned agencies, including the National Bureau of Investigation, being put together, to come up with a positive target, in response to insinuations that Saycon's arrest was a form of political harassment.
Carlos said small-time drug pushing in the streets is being handled by police stations while Operation Big Bertha focuses on the so-called “big fish,” to include the shipper, the recipients, consignees and those who are doing the repacking.
He added it is normal for persons arrested for violating provisions of RA 9165 to say that the evidences against them are planted.
In the case of Saycon, Carlos said the police is backed with several intelligence information about the illegal drugs activity of the fireman.
“I don't think it is political harassment,” Carlos stressed.*JG
