Ensure public safety during Holy Week, DILG orders PNP, BFP, LGUs

Under a memorandum circular, the DILG enjoined all local chief executives (LCEs) to convene their local peace and order councils, and other local teams “to draw up and implement contingency plans for Semana Santa” in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call to uphold public safety.
“This includes ensuring the availability of adequate, safe, and orderly public transportation and emergency medical services, among others,” the DILG said in a news release on Tuesday.
LCEs are also directed to mobilize and deploy law and traffic enforcers, medical personnel, and other force multipliers in critical areas such as local and national roads, crime-prone areas or hotspots, transportation terminals, churches, and other public places.
The DILG said LGUs must also mobilize all resources for garbage collection and disposal, and conduct clean-up operations in all public places, especially after the conduct of religious and social activities.
In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has set up more police assistance desks in major transportation hubs in Metro Manila as the number of passengers is expected to increase on Wednesday.
NCRPO director Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin inspected Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Tuesday to assess the readiness of deployed personnel and reinforced police visibility.
“In this season of reflection, NCRPO’s vigilance and commitment are vital in ensuring the security and safety of everyone,” he said.
He said NCRPO has deployed a sufficient number of personnel in transportation hubs, churches and other places of convergence.
The PNP earlier placed all police forces across the country on heightened alert status and deployed over 65,000 cops to secure Holy Week observance. (PNA)
