PNP boosts police visibility to deter criminal activities

MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Thursday it has launched intensified,
intelligence-led, and target-driven operations across the country to strengthen public safety, deter criminal activities, and ensure maximum police visibility in the country’s most critical and high-density areas.

In a statement, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said the heightened police posture is being implemented over and above the ongoing deployment of forces for the 2025 national and local elections, in compliance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s marching orders.

He underscored the PNP's operational agility and commitment to upholding law and order even in the face of multiple national imperatives.

“These intensified operations are in direct support of the President’s call for a safer and more disciplined society. We are maximizing our law enforcement capabilities, focusing on high-impact operations, and enhancing police visibility, especially in public areas where safety concerns are highest. Public safety is a shared responsibility – and the PNP is taking the lead,” Marbil said.

In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has intensified its deployment along EDSA and other major thoroughfares, including key intersections, busy crossings, transport terminals, and convergence zones.

He said day and night, patrol teams maintain a highly visible presence, ensuring that commuters, motorists, and pedestrians alike feel secure and protected.

“Strategic deployment of personnel in these areas is aimed not only at crime deterrence but also at traffic enforcement and emergency response,” he added.

In Central Luzon and Calabarzon, the police regional offices (PRO) have recalibrated their anti-criminality strategies based on updated crime mapping, time-based crime patterns, and predictive policing tools.

“Patrols have been reinforced in urban centers, provincial capitals, commercial districts, and transport hubs, all aligned with a coordinated approach to suppress criminal elements and respond swiftly to emerging threats,” he said.

Complementing these efforts, the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) has intensified its operations along national highways, major roads, and crucial ingress and egress points.

Strict enforcement of the “No Plate, No Travel” policy is underway, alongside joint operations with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) targeting unregistered and illegally operated vehicles. Spot inspections are being conducted based on Section 48 of Republic Act 4136, also known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, with increased scrutiny on establishments related to vehicle operations to ensure compliance with safety and legal standards.

At the national level, Marbil said, all PROs have been ordered to reassess and optimize their patrol deployments using crime mapping, crime clocks, and hotspot data.

Tactical Motorcycle Riding Units, he added, have been mobilized to intensify anti-criminality drives targeting loose firearms, illegal drugs, private armed groups, organized criminal gangs, and wanted persons, ensuring that lawbreakers have no room to operate.

As the nation moves forward under the vision of Bagong Pilipinas, the PNP said it stands firm at the front lines, committed, capable, and proactive in delivering on its promise to keep every Filipino community safe, orderly, and secure. (PNA)
